Tough challenges
Electrification
The challenge facing the automotive and commercial vehicle industry in the electrification of vehicles lies in the development of efficient battery systems, the creation of a comprehensive charging infrastructure, cost reduction, ensuring range and reliability, and adapting production technologies to the new drive systems.
Weight reduction
The automotive industry is increasingly turning to lightweight materials such as aluminium, carbon fibre composites and plastics to improve fuel efficiency and sustainability. These materials reduce vehicle weight and emissions while maintaining safety standards. Lightweight construction is revolutionising design and performance, but remains safety-oriented.
Automation
Automation is revolutionising automotive manufacturing through the use of robotic arms and advanced systems for setting fasteners such as blind rivets, blind rivet nuts and retaining rings. This improves efficiency, precision and product quality, shortens assembly times and minimises human error, while ensuring structural integrity and safety.

Applications

The transformation of the automotive industry towards electric vehicles brings both opportunities and challenges. In addition to the electric drive, energy storage systems and the charging infrastructure also need to be developed.
New suppliers are entering the market and established manufacturers must therefore optimise their products, processes and supply chains.

The trailer and semi-trailer industry is struggling with cost pressures and the trend towards lightweight construction, with high material costs weighing on profitability.
In addition, there is strong competitive pressure as many suppliers compete for customers with innovations, quality, costs and service. They must therefore differentiate themselves from the competition.

MHCVs (Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles) carry around three quarters of all land freight in Europe. They are therefore the most flexible, responsive and economical mode of transport for goods and freight.
Cost pressure while maintaining highest quality standards is the perpetual challenge as the industry opens up more and more to electromobility.

Buses and coaches are the most widely-used, cost-efficient, and flexible form of public transport in Europe, serving cities as well as suburban and rural areas.
In view of strict environmental targets, public transport plays an important role in reducing single-occupant car journeys. The bus industry must now quickly adapt its design and manufacturing capacity.

The use of electric tractors is revolutionising goods transport and reducing emissions. They offer a quiet, environmentally friendly alternative to diesel engines, especially for short distances.
Despite the advantages, manufacturers and logistics companies face challenges: range, charging times and charging infrastructure must be optimised.

Electric buses are gaining importance worldwide as they reduce emissions and noise in public transport and improve the quality of life in cities.
However, the switch to electric drives brings challenges such as improving battery technology, expanding the charging infrastructure and finding economical solutions.
